Adults Who Visited an OB/GYN

County: Ventura
Measurement Period: 2023
This indicator shows the percentage of female adults who visited an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) in the past year.

Why is this important?

An obstetrician-gynecologist is a doctor with special training and education in women’s health. OB-GYNs perform important screening exams such as Pap smears, pelvic examinations, STI tests and breast examinations. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, advises girls should have their first appointment with a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15 and all female adults over the age of 21 should have a yearly well-woman exam. The Affordable Care Act entitles all women to one free well-woman exam with an OB-GYN or primary care doctor annually.
