Vaccine stigma and hesitancy disrupts progress in protecting a community against infectious diseases. Most people have a positive view on vaccine safety, however there have been surges of vaccine opposition throughout the 21st century.  This opposition has led to measles outbreaks in countries where measles was previously considered eliminated.
